Following ongoing preparations to the Streets of Markham circuit by the race promoter, Friday’s scheduled practice and qualifying sessions were postponed to Saturday morning.
NASCAR Canada drivers took to the brand-new street circuit for the first time Saturday for a 30-minute practice and qualifying session. With a new circuit came a new challenge for the field, as drivers worked quickly to learn the 12-turn course ahead of the Markham 125 later in the day.
The single fastest lap recorded by each driver during the session determined the starting lineup for the Markham 125. Marc-Antoine Camirand recorded the fastest lap of the session with a time of 1:34.716 in the No. 96 GM Paille/Chevrolet Canada Chevrolet, earning the top starting position for this afternoon’s race.
“It was really interesting in those first few laps, learning a brand-new circuit. Everyone was starting from the same point,” said Camirand. “The track is a lot of fun. It’s fast, with some really tight sections. I’m really happy to have earned the first-ever pole here in the history of the Streets of Markham.”
Tyler Gonzalez in the No. 38 Power Leaves Corp/RGR Motorsports Ford will start second on the grid. Louis-Philippe Dumoulin posted the third-fastest qualifying time in the No. 47 WeatherTech/Bellemare/Omnifab Dodge. He is followed by Kevin Lacroix in the No. 74 NAPA Racing Chevrolet who will start fourth and Alex Tagliani who rounds out the top five in the No. 80 St. Hubert/UPS Store/Bet GRW/Olymel Chevrolet.
The green flag for the Markham 125 is scheduled for 4:45 p.m. ET. The race will be broadcast live on REV TV, TVA Sports 2 and the NASCAR Canada YouTube channel.
