The NASCAR Canada Series heads west this weekend for the final doubleheader of the 2026 season at Edmonton International Raceway. As the series returns to Alberta’s quarter-mile oval, three drivers from Western Canada will look to make the most of racing in front of a hometown crowd.
Jamie Krzysik Returns to the Series
Alberta’s Jamie Krzysik is set to make his first NASCAR Canada Series start since 2024 behind the wheel of the No. 98 Krown-Pel Ventures/Curb Records Dodge.
Krzysik began racing Mini Stocks at Hythe Motor Speedway at the age of 14 and is looking forward to competing on home soil once again.
“My hopes for the weekend are to run all the laps,” said Krzysik. “If we do that, we should be in really good shape and be competitive. After being away from the series last year, we’ll have some catching up to do, I’m sure.”
Racing in front of a hometown crowd adds another level of excitement.
“Being able to race out west here means a lot. It’s always great to race in front of friends and family, especially on this big of a stage with the NASCAR Canada Series.”
Matthew Shirley Looking to Build on Local Experience
Saskatchewan’s Matthew Shirley will make his first NASCAR Canada Series appearance of the season in the No. 28 CRUSH-IT Hard Iced Tea/Denray Tire Dodge.
Having competed throughout Western Canada in both the Pro Late Model and the NASCAR Canada Series, Shirley enters the weekend with valuable experience at Edmonton International Raceway.
“We have put together some respectable results with our CRUSH-IT Hard Iced Tea Dodge Challenger prepared by DJK Racing, including a couple of top-10 finishes,” said Shirley. “I’m confident that we have the program that can put a top-five together. The dream obviously would be to park it in Victory Lane, but I also respect the competition in the NASCAR Canada Series.”
Shirley also values the opportunity to race against many of the series’ established veterans.
“Every time we get to race against the likes of Andrew Ranger, DJ Kennington, Alex Tagliani and L.P. Dumoulin, the better I personally become as a racer. That’s what makes this series so attractive as a driver. You’re always striving to better yourself.”
Competing in Western Canada carries added significance for Shirley.
“The home crowd is what makes racing so rewarding. Having family, friends and supporters from across Western Canada come out and support us and this series means the world. Edmonton has become our home track this year, and I’m honoured to represent the local drivers we’ve raced against from Saskatoon to Penticton on the national stage.”
Rob Naismith Continues Full Oval Campaign
Fellow Saskatchewan driver Rob Naismith returns in the No. 10 MRN Racing Chevrolet after competing in every oval event on the 2026 NASCAR Canada schedule to date. Currently 14th in the championship standings, Naismith also plans to compete in the season finale at Delaware Speedway.
Named the 2017 Pro Truck Rookie of the Year before capturing the 2022 Pro Truck championship, Naismith made his NASCAR Canada Series debut in 2025 at Sutherland Automotive Speedway in Saskatoon.
Heading into the Edmonton doubleheader, his focus remains straightforward.
“I am hoping to put on a good showing and stay out of trouble, but we know how that goes on the Edmonton International Raceway short track,” said Naismith.
Like the other Western Canadian competitors, racing close to home is something he appreciates.
“I am excited to race in front of friends and family at this level of racing. This has been a dream of mine since I was a kid, and because of the love and support of my lovely wife Maria, this dream has come true.”
The green flag for the Dorman Products 150 is scheduled for Saturday at 7:10 p.m. MT (9:10 p.m. ET), followed by the Carlyle Tools 150 at 9:10 p.m. MT (11:10 p.m. ET).
