Kennington Battles to Podium Finish at Montmagny

Veteran racer DJ Kennington and the #17 Castrol Dodge team overcame adversity capping off a challenging evening with a podium finish during the NASCAR Canada Series doubleheader featuring rounds five and six of the 2026 championship Saturday night at the Autodrome Montmagny in Montmagny, Quebec.

Starting 11th in the opening 125 lap race, Kennington quickly worked his way into the top ten despite battling a car that was difficult to handle from the outset. Fighting the ill handling machine the entire race, he brought the Castrol Dodge home in 10th position. Following the race, the team identified a damaged tire as the source of the handling problem.

With the issue corrected, Kennington again rolled off 11th for the 150 lap second race and immediately began moving forward. A series of early caution flags allowed Kennington to capitalize on NASCAR Canada’s choose rule, making the most of each restart to gain valuable track position.

His determined drive carried the #17 Castrol Dodge into the top three and after several hard-fought battles he secured a third-place finish to claim his first podium result of the season. Kennington also won the “Move of the Race” contingency award.

“The Castrol car was awesome,” said Kennington. We’ve had some up and down races already this year but finishing on the podium gives us some momentum to push for more. Big thanks to all our partners who make this possible and to the team for another big effort today. There’s still a long way to go this year and we’re going to keep digging”.
