The NASCAR Canada Series wrapped up its 2025 road course schedule last weekend at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park (CTMP, Mosport). But three oval races remain on the calendar this September. For three-time series champion Louis-Philippe Dumoulin, Sunday’s WeatherTech 200 was a mix of emotions. Driving the #47 WeatherTech Canada | Groupe Bellemare | Omnifab car, Dumoulin finished eighth after starting from tenth on the grid. Behind the raw result lies a sense of what might have been: “I’m happy to have gained a spot in the championship thanks to this race, but we could have finished higher if luck had been on our side with race strategy,” Dumoulin explained.
“Like several drivers, I pitted very early to refuel and then changed the two left-side tires. There were so many cautions in the opening laps that we gambled on pitting just before a restart to then change the two right-side tires. Considering that the #47 WeatherTech Canada | Groupe Bellemare | Omnifab team is very strong at changing tires quickly, I wasn’t worried about using another caution to catch back up with the leaders,” he said. NASCAR Canada rules do not allow teams to change all four tires during the same stop. “Unfortunately, the race went into its only long green-flag run immediately after that stop, which meant I spent many laps working to close back in on the leaders,” Dumoulin added.
After dropping outside the Top 15 entering the final quarter of the race, Dumoulin fought back to finish eighth: “With a bit of luck on our side with the cautions, a podium could have been possible. But that’s racing. Sometimes strategy works in your favor, sometimes it doesn’t.”
The team now turns its focus to Delaware Speedway, located near London, Ontario, which will host two 125-lap races on Saturday, September 13. It will mark Dumoulin’s 10th career NASCAR Canada start at this track. “I’ve never won a race there yet, but it’s where I clinched my third championship back in 2021. I really like this oval, it’s fast without having very steep corners. Our new oval car should be well suited for it, and I’m confident we can have a strong result. It’ll be especially important to avoid any incidents in the first race, since we’ll only have just over an hour between the finish of Race 1 and the start of Race 2,” concludes the driver of the #47 WeatherTech Canada | Groupe Bellemare | Omnifab.
On Saturday, September 13, practice will take place from 12:45 p.m. to 1:45 p.m., followed by qualifying at 5:00 p.m. The first race will go green at 6:20 p.m., with the second starting at 8:30 p.m.
