After only three starts in the NASCAR Canada Series, William Larue has already earned two podium finishes, a second place at Autodrome Montmagny in 2024 and another second place at Riverside International Speedway this past June. The driver from Québec City is now set to make his fourth start behind the wheel of the No. 45 Larue Industrial Snow Blowers / XPN Chevrolet during the Bud Light 250 at Autodrome Chaudière this Saturday, August 2.
“I’m aiming for a top-five finish. We prefer to keep our expectations realistic and try to exceed our goals,” he says. “The car has the pace, so a top five is definitely within reach.”
An Unconventional Rise
Larue began his racing career in 2018 after purchasing a LMS car. Unlike many drivers his age, he didn’t come up through karting. Although his family has owned the Larue Motorsport team since 2003, his interest in racing really took off through sim racing. He eventually made the leap to the track with guidance from Alex Labbé, a former Larue Motorsport driver.
“I’ve been going to races since I was a teenager, and I already knew the people on the team,” he explains. “Alex Labbé represented everything I aspired to be as a race car driver.”
Track Experience at Chaudière
Autodrome Chaudière is far from unfamiliar territory for Larue. Since 2019, he has competed in several LMS events each season at the track. It’s also where he claimed his first LMS victory. “Along with Montmagny, it’s one of the two tracks where I have the most experience,” he notes.
Larue describes his driving style as patient and focused. “I don’t lose concentration during races and that’s one of my strengths,” he says. His race preparation includes solid training, cardio work and proper hydration. “The mental aspect is crucial when you’re in the car, especially with the heat and the need to stay focused.”
Looking Ahead
Larue plans to return to Autodrome Montmagny later this season. As his progress continues, he dreams of exploring other North American racing series, including ARCA or the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series. “I’d like to try something in the U.S., a bit like Alex Labbé, though not necessarily full-time,” he mentions.
He also emphasizes the importance of the team behind him. “Without their expertise, I wouldn’t have been able to do all this. It truly makes a difference.”
