David Thorndyke and the #67 Feed the Need in Durham Chevrolet opened their 2025 NASCAR Canada Series campaign this past Sunday in the Clarington 200 at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park (CTMP), showing strong consistency and steady pace throughout the weekend.
After shaking down the car in practice, Thorndyke and the team worked diligently to fine-tune the setup of the #67 Chevrolet. Their efforts paid off, as the car felt solid in race trim, giving Thorndyke the confidence to settle in and begin making progress once the green flag dropped.
Throughout the opening laps, Thorndyke maintained a patient approach, carefully picking his moments and moving forward several positions in the highly competitive field. The veteran racer showed solid pace and consistent lap times, making the most of the car’s capabilities.
Unfortunately, about two-thirds of the way through the event, electrical issues began to surface. The team quickly recognized a drop-off in lap times and, rather than risk further complications or potential damage, made the decision to bring the car to pit road and retire from the race.
“We were feeling really good out there,” said Thorndyke. “The car responded well, and we were running consistent laps and moving forward. It’s a tough call to park it, but the smart choice was to protect the equipment and live to fight another day. We definitely have more speed in this car and we’ll be ready to show it when we come back here in the fall.”
Beyond the on-track performance, the event was an opportunity for the team to raise awareness for an important local cause. “It meant a lot to have Feed the Need in Durham on board this weekend,” added Thorndyke. “They’re doing essential work supporting our community, and we’re proud to help shine a light on their efforts.”
David Thorndyke and the #67 Feed the Need in Durham Chevrolet will return to NASCAR Canada Series competition on Labour Day weekend when the series returns to CTMP.
