Spotlight: Sam Fellows Returns to His Home Track This Weekend

What are some of the key highlights in your racing career?
I still believe the best is yet to come for me, but I’ve had some cool moments for sure thus far. Winning on my pro sports-car racing debut at CTMP in 2018 in the rain, and got interviewed in victory lane by the late-great Jim Martyn – awesome memory for me. In the NASCAR Canada Series, our first fourth place finish as a team earlier this year at CTMP was a big moment for us and one that took a lot of teamwork and dedication.

What do you enjoy doing in your free time? Any hobbies?
Family is really important to me, we spend a lot of time together both at the track and outside of it. I also enjoy playing guitar a lot, I actually used to play gigs in bands and now I play for my infant daughter which is the best audience I could ever have. Golf is another hobby of mine, though I’ll admit I’m terrible. I’m also a total movie nerd, so I love going to the cinema or watching old movies at home.

What’s your favourite food or restaurant?
Pasta is life. My go-to spot would be the lunch counter at Famiglia Baldassarre in Toronto. It’s always so fresh and authentic.

How do you mentally prepare for a race?Mental preparation is key for me, and I’ve had help from the one and only Dr. Jacques Dallaire. I focus on delivering my best personal performance and try to block out the things that are out of my control. That mindset helps me stay focused and calm before getting a race.

Do you have any pre-race rituals?

A few things. I eat a peanut butter and banana sandwich before every race, and I like to throw a football around with the team to get loose and take my mind off things. My brother Patrick usually quotes Talladega Nights on the team radio before we get rolling so we can have a little laugh before things get serious.
