Ohsweken Speedway, the only dirt track on the schedule, hosted the NASCAR Canada series last Thursday. It was a trouble-free race for Kevin Lacroix and Innovation Auto Sport. The driver of the #74 Gates Hydraulics / NAPA Racing car finished in 7th place at the end of the 100-lap race.
However, the day started on a high note as he set the fastest time in the Practice session. He admitted after the session that the track conditions were changing drastically as the session progressed, so the times set at the beginning were not representative.
He started from 13th position for the Freshstone Dirt Classic, which began at 10 PM. The race was divided into three stages, the first two of 25 laps and the final one of 50 laps.
Since the Saint-Eustache native cannot afford to have any retirements as he is currently in 3rd place in the championship, 11 points behind the leader, it was a somewhat more passive race. The goal was to not damage the car, which must head to Western Canada next week.
“It wasn’t the result I was hoping for; I would have liked to collect more points,” admits Lacroix. “Ohsweken Speedway ” is a unique track with its own challenges since the grip is so different. So overall, I’m happy to leave without any damage and with an excellent car for the races in Saskatchewan and Alberta.”
He concluded by stating, “All the upcoming tracks on the schedule are places where we perform well, so I’m looking forward to seeing what the future holds for us.”
The Freshstone Dirt Classic will be broadcast on TSN on Saturday, July 20 at 2 PM, and on RDS on Saturday, July 27 at 5:30 PM. The next race will be on July 20 at Sutherland Automotive Speedway in Saskatchewan.
