Track Profile: Grand Prix de Trois-Rivières

There’s nothing like 60 laps of NASCAR Pinty’s Series racing around the 1.53-mile circuit on the streets of Trois-Rivières, Quebec.

For a decade and a half, the series has visited the Grand Prix de Trois-Rivières on an annual basis. Entering 2023, the event has produced three different winners driving three different car makes over the last three years.

Andrew Ranger has most Pinty’s Series wins on the streets of Trois-Rivières with four, one ahead of Alex Tagliani’s three.

The roots of the Grand Prix de Trois-Rivières can be found in Monaco, where street races inspired the inception of a similar concept in Quebec. Jean E. Ryan, Yves Dufour, Paul Charest, Leon Girard and Leon Cadieux spearheaded a committee that founded the Grand Prix de Trois-Rivières.

Today, the course hosts multiple tours beyond the NASCAR Pinty’s Series. They include the SCCC GT4/TCR Canadian Sports Car Championship, the Nissan Sentra Cup, F1600 Canada, Super Production Challenge, Urban Challenge Chevrolet and Modified Legends.

The current group of series on the schedule adds to an impressive list of former visitors, including Formula Atlantic, American LeMans Serie, Trans Am and CCTC, among others. The Grand Prix de Trois-Rivières also hosts the FIA World Rallycross Championship on a half-asphalt, half-dirt track circuit.

The Grand Prix de Trois-Rivières each year is split into two weekends, with the NASCAR Pinty’s Series action arriving on the second along with the rest of the street-course racing. The first weekend features the AMA Supermoto Cogeco, SuperQuads Elka and Formula Drift Canada having been added to World RX and national rallycross categories.

The Pinty’s Series’ weekend also includes CTCC, Formula Tour 1600, IMSA Mazda Prototype lites and Nissan Micra Cup on the street course.

The NASCAR Pinty’s Series first visited the Grand Prix de Trois-Rivières in 2007, when Kerry Micks drove a Ford to Victory Lane. Three of Ranger’s four Trois-Rivières wins followed in consecutive years from 2008-10 before Robin Buck drove a Dodge to victory in 2011. Ranger returned to Victory Lane in 2012.

Other consecutive Pinty’s Series winners at the Grand Prix de Trois-Rivières include Kevin Lacroix (2015-16) and Tagliani (2017-18).
