Track Profile: Circuit ICAR

Located about an hour north of Montreal, Quebec sits the International Center of Advanced Racing, more commonly known as ICAR. One of the most unique tracks on the series schedule, this 1.8-kilometre road course sits on the former runways of the Mirabel Airport.

TRACK PROFILE: CIRCUIT ICAR

Opened in 2008, Circuit ICAR originally began as a private motorsports club, allowing racers and students to train and expand their driving knowledge.

In 2011, the NASCAR Pinty’s Series made its debut on the complex’s 2.113-mile circuit, with Robin Buck taking the inaugural win.

From 2012 – 2016, Andrew Ranger dominated the course, with Kevin taking the win once in 2015.

In 2017, it was announced that the series would run a 0.684-mile version of the track. Alex Tagliani took to pole, but once the green came out, Lacroix was quick to take to lead but didn’t hold it for long.

With 10-laps to go, Marc-Antoine Camirand flew away with the lead, seemingly on the way to his first victory in the series. But a late race caution sent the field into NASCAR Overtime, and on the restart, Lacroix took the leaders three-wide, taking control of the field and the checkered flag.

The track disappeared from the series’ circuit for two years until the 2020 schedule was announced. However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the return was delayed until 2021.

Ranger claimed the pole in the first race back, with Lacroix to his outside. It didn’t take long for the No. 74 Dodge to take the lead, but after only 10-laps, he took control of the race and the arrival of rain, multiple cautions, and two overtime attempts couldn’t stop him from taking his third victory at the track.
