Come the beginning of summer, the grounds around Exhibition Place in downtown Toronto, Ontario starts to transform. Over the next few weeks, fencing, walls, grandstands and bridges appear and by race week, the 1.786-mile street circuit takes its shape.

To this day, the streets of Toronto have given NASCAR Pinty’s Series fans six action-packed races with only three different drivers taking home the top prize.

Now, after a two-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic, racing returns to downtown Toronto.

Originally known as the Molson Indy Toronto, racing began on the streets of Canada’s largest city in 1986, with Champ Car World Series (CCWS) as the headlining show.

NASCAR Pinty’s Series’ predecessor, CASCAR, raced on the track from 1999 to 2005.

In 2008, during the merger of CCWS and INDYCAR, that year’s edition of the Grand Prix was cancelled. However, it was brought back a year later as part of the INDYCAR schedule.

In 2010, the NASCAR Pinty’s Series made its debut at the track, only racing there for two years. Andrew Ranger swept both races.

Five years later in 2016, the series returned to Exhibition Place, and it has remained a fan favourite event ever since. Alex Tagliani won the first race back, and a year later Kevin Lacroix found victory there as well.

Ranger visited victory lane again in 2018, becoming the most winningest series driver on the streets of Toronto.

Last time out, Tagliani fended off Marc-Antoine Camirand, Ranger, and L.P. Dumoulin, throughout NASCAR Overtime to claim his second win there.

The series was set to visit the track in 2020, but due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the event was cancelled, two years in a row.

The track reappeared on NASCAR Pinty’s schedule for 2022, and now 25 Canadian drivers have the chance to battle it out for one of the series’ crown jewel wins.
