Driver Championship After Saskatoon
Marc-Antoine Camirand clinched the Halfway Champion title after a decisive victory at Sutherland Raceway. This win has significantly boosted his points tally, positioning him firmly in the lead with 297 points in the NASCAR Canada series.
Trailing closely behind Camirand is his Paillé Racing teammate Andrew Ranger, who holds second place with 290 points. Ranger has been a strong contender throughout the season, consistently securing top positions and challenging Camirand. Kevin Lacroix is in third with 281 points, showcasing his resilience and determination to climb higher in the rankings. Lacroix can’t afford any bad luck after retiring from the first race at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park. Same goes for the two leaders, Marc-Antoine Camirand and Andrew Ranger, who didn’t score many points at Riverside Speedway in Antigonish.
Louis-Philippe Dumoulin and Jason Hathaway round out the top five, with 269 and 262 points respectively. Both drivers have shown commendable performances, Dumoulin claiming the Newfoundland Tourism Move of the Race Award at Sutherland Speedway for his stellar performance.
The Sutherland Raceway event saw drivers adopting a more conservative approach, likely due to the high stakes of the championship at this critical halfway mark. With valuable points on the line, taking unnecessary risks was not an option for many who remain out West. However, this cautious strategy is expected to shift as the series moves to Edmonton Speedway this coming Saturday. Drivers will be pushing hard, eager to secure their positions and gain an edge in the championship race before the highly anticipated Grand Prix de Trois-Rivières.
As the season progresses, the competition is set to intensify. Fans can expect more high-octane action, strategic maneuvers, and edge-of-the-seat finishes as the drivers battle it out for the coveted NASCAR Canada title. Marc-Antoine Camirand’s current lead places him in a favorable position, but with fierce competitors like Andrew Ranger and Kevin Lacroix close behind, the fight for the championship is far from over.
