PIT BOX: NASCAR Pinty’s Series Returns to the Ovals

After four straight road course events, the NASCAR Pinty’s Series is returning to the ovals this weekend at Flamboro Speedway for the next doubleheader event.

The 1/3-mile oval made its debut last year during the Pinty’s FanCave Challenge and is back for two more 125 lap races.

WHAT TO WATCH FOR:

Last time out at Flamboro Speedway, Jason Hathaway and Kevin Lacroix each dominated a part of the doubleheader. Earlier this season at Sunset Speedway the No. 74 Bumper to Bumper Dodge finished fifth in the Frontline Workers 125 but had some bad luck in the General Tire 125, broke a rear gear and was forced to retire from the race.

Lacroix will be looking to close a 30-point deficit in the standings between him and first place Alex Tagliani.

Treyten Lapcevich is looking for redemption at Flamboro. The 17-year-old was super fast at Sunset, battling for the lead multiple times but ended up finishing ninth and fourth, respectively. The rookie is hot on the heels of his first NASCAR Pinty’s, having already collected three top-fives out of six races.

Another Ontario driver joining the field for the ovals is Pete Shepherd III. Driving the No. 7 Chevrolet, Shepherd battled with Lapcevich and Raphael Lessard at Sunset for both 125 lap races. The five-time race winner hasn’t won since 2013 and is vying for another victory.

Tagliani currently sits at the top of the points with an eight-point lead over L.P. Dumoulin. Last time at Flamboro, Tagliani finished fourth and sixth respectively while Dumoulin finished in seventh and fifth.

After six races, five different drivers have claimed the top step of the podium. Lessard is currently the only repeat winner and heading back to ovals, the current points battle could see an upset.
