For the final race at Mosport Speedway, Pete Shepherd III walked away with the historic win.
In the closing laps of the 2013 Clarington 200 things were heating up and with 16 to go they hit a boiling point when Noel Dowler and LP Dumoulin got together.
Restarting on Lap 193, Shepherd immediately took the lead and soared far ahead of Scott Steckly and J.R. Fitzpatrick.
Coming into Turn 1 on the final lap, Steckly was able to push his No. 22 Canadian Tire/Sylvania Dodge in front of Fitzpatrick.
But there was still no match for Shepherd and his No. 7 National Exhaust/Diamond Material Handling Dodge as he went on to claim his second straight win, 3.127 seconds over Steckly.
"I gotta thank my competitors for racing me so clean, such respect between everybody," said Shepherd. "I don’t know what the gap was at the end if anyone was on me or not but it was a fun race car to drive."

Mosport would be Shepherd’s last win in the series. He only ran two more races that season, at Barrie Speedway and the finale at Kawartha Speedway. Shepherd would make his return to the series in 2018 running the No. 79 National Exhaust/Shelby Roofing Ford in six events that season, scoring a runner-up finish at New Hampshire Motor Speedway.
D.J. Kennington’s day didn’t go as he wanted. The defending race winner started having issues towards the end of the race with oil being leaked onto the track. He would finish the race in 10th, two laps down.

Kennington left the Clarington 200 with a one-point lead over Jason Hathaway, four over Jeff Lapcevich, and five of Dumoulin. Just 20 points separated first from 10th, while Steckly was 14th (28 back) and slowly climbing out of his early-season issues.
Leaving the Mosport oval with a runner up finish, Steckly’s championship run truly began. He scored three straight wins in Vernon, British Columbia; Saskatoon’s Auto Clearing Speedway; and Quebec’s Autodrome St-Eustache.
The championship battle would heat up in the second half of the season when Steckly and Kennington would trade the points lead back and forth.
Steckly claimed his third series title by winning his fourth race of the season at Kawartha. This would be the closest championship battle in series history with Steckly winning by just two points.
The rest of Fitzpatrick’s season would be a roller coaster of luck. Trouble as Vernon, Riverside International Speedway and Kawartha would push him further back in the points standing.
At the end of July 2013, CTMP closed Mosport Speedway to make way for their new driver development track, which is currently situated next to the go-karting track in Bowmanville, Ontario.
